Experiment with transforming ordinary materials into extraordinary art, using castoff materials gathered from local industries and businesses. Wood, metal, plastic, bicycle parts and glass morph into boxes, giant assemblages, reliefs and figurative sculpture. Perfect your craftsmanship while learning to safely use hand tools, fasteners, nuts, bolts and sheet rock screws. Experience a variety of professional techniques such as soldering metals, joining wood with dowels and glue, and using silicone adhesives to bond glass and plastic. Expand your knowledge of composition as you become familiar with the works of great sculptors like Picasso, Nevelson and Rauschenburg. Prerequisite(s): (Grades: 6-9)

Charles Churchill, an award winning local sculptor, has worked in collections nationally, including the diRosa Preserve in Napa. A teacher for over 25 years, he has taught for the Sebastopol Center for the Arts and currently teaches for Willowside School and Sonoma County Headstart.
