Summer 2009

Industrial Scrap Magic (Grades: 6-9)

Glue, cut, assemble and fabricate in this wild, mixed media sculpture class. Experiment with transforming ordinary materials into extraordinary art, using castoff materials gathered from local industries and businesses. Wood, metal, plastic, bicycle parts and glass morph into boxes, giant assemblages, reliefs and figurative sculpture. Perfect your craftsmanship while learning to safely use hand tools, fasteners, nuts, bolts and sheet rock screws. Experience a variety of professional techniques such as soldering metals, joining wood with dowels and glue, and using silicone adhesives to bond glass and plastic. Expand your knowledge of composition as you become familiar with the works of great sculptors like Picasso, Nevelson and Rauschenburg.
