Summer 2009

An Archaeological Mystery 2009 (Grades: 6-9)

Work with a real archaeologist and solve a new mystery for 2009 as we attempt to uncover the secrets behind an archaeological site full of lost artifacts. For the first time at Excel, you will be digging and excavating portions of the university's Archaeological Challenge site. Draw and identify authentic artifacts and conduct analysis. Pore over old notes and maps and chase down clues from thousands of years ago. Learn how to do research and record your findings in a scientific notebook, then present them to the class in a professional symposium on the last day. A fieldtrip is planned to the Anthropological Studies Center on the SSU campus and excavations will take place throughout the week at the Center's archaeological site.
