Language, Culture and Education
This class studies the interaction of human culture, language, and education, especially in the context of public eduction in today's U.S. We explore what is meant by culture and language. We look at human language and culture as the unique things that humans do. We consider such topics in the area of language and learning as language and social identity, ESL teaching in our state, teaching linguistically and culturally diverse students, and educational policy and linguistic diversity.
Each student will undertake a library research and fieldwork project in a subtopic of choice.
