Summer 2009Stop-Motion Animation: Or Gumby Gone Wild (Grades: 6-9)Produce your own Stop-Motion Animation short film using multiple creative resources, get to know your way around computer media tools and have a film-making blast! Through a fusion of art and technology create the impossible and bring objects, drawings, toys and people magically to life, using still-frame capture, clay sculpture, paper cutouts, flipbooks, creative storyboarding and more. Then, using a digital still camera, a computer, iMovie and other software, work independently and in groups to digitally produce your original animation, complete with sound effects, music, cool transitions, credits, and final editing. Your final movie will be reproduced on a DVD to take home. Prerequisite(s):

Joan Clark, B.A. from UC Berkeley, is a computer instructor, graphic designer, Mac geek and consultant. She is currently Technology Coordinator at West Side Elementary School in Healdsburg, where she teaches, trains and coaches Apple computer use for kids and teachers. As a long-time freelance designer for small businesses and non-profits, she brings a depth of experience in a wide variety of media and design software. Joan and Stu currently team-teach Podcasting and Stop-Motion Animation at West Side Elementary School in Healdsburg. Instructor: Stuart Clark
Stuart Clark is a musician, digital recording engineer, and environmental consultant. As a pioneer in bringing recycling to curbsides throughout America, Stu developed one of the first environmental education programs available to Sonoma County schools. He was instrumental in introducing Cycler, the Recycling Robot national education program. He has been a guest instructor at UCLA, UC Irvine and UC Davis. Joan and Stu currently team-teach Podcasting and Stop-Motion Animation at West Side Elementary School in Healdsburg.
