Introduction to Art History: Cave to Renaissance


A survey course covering painting, sculpture and architecture of prehistoric and primitive cultures, and ancient, classical and medieval civilizations. Satisfies GE, category C1 (Fine Arts).

Instructor: Heidi Chretien

Heidi Chretien, Ph.D. divides her time between Sonoma State and Dominican University where she teaches graduate Humanities, Art History and Women's History. A native of California, but raised in New York, she received her Ph.D. in Art History/History from SUNY Buffalo and landed a Fulbright Fellowship to Italy. She ended up staying in Florence for many years teaching for Syracuse University and New York University at Villa La Pietra. She wrote a book on festival life in Renaissance Florence. She continues to lecture in Italy and the South of France when possible.
