Summer 2009Creative Cartooning (Grades: 4-6)Love to draw cartoons? Come spend a week exploring the many facets of cartooning and discover how to draw zany characters with dynamic, eye-catching backgrounds. Learn about creative layout, storyboarding, and how to put together a four-frame comic strip. Tips on figure drawing, proportions of the head and effective facial expressions help you develop intriguing cartoon personalities. Explore the special techniques of Japanese Anime and learn tips for drawing highly stylized anime eyes and multi-colored manga hair. Collaborate with one to another to sculpt a three dimensional character out of clay. Create your own cartoon puzzles and games, then invent and record character voices. All levels are encouraged from beginner to experienced in this class that gives you the tools to make your cartoons jump to life. Prerequisite(s):

Mark Edwards has been teaching art in the Bay Area for over 15 years and currently teaches cartooning for Youth in Arts in Marin County. He attended the Academy of Art in San Francisco and is the author of four children's books.
