Summer 2009Summer Clay Studio (Grades: 5-8)Come and spend two weeks getting all fired up over clay! Let your imagination take shape, exploring the world of ceramics. Learn to make functional and sculptural pieces using a variety of handbuilding techniques including slab, coil and pinch methods, as well as spending time learning to throw on the potter's wheel. Then decorate your pieces with textures, carvings, modeling, and colorful underglazes and glazes. Be part of Raku firings at the end of the session and join your team in meeting the challenges of the Clay Olympics. Everything you make will be fired for you to take home. Please bring an apron your imagination and a towel or two for clean-up. Due to time restraints, some pieces may not be fired by the end of class. Please plan to pick up additional pieces the following week. Prerequisite(s): (Grades: 4-8)
